I'm new to this, so what's a typical road rally consist of? Is it a continuous "race" to the finish line? or is it like a scavenger hunt type deal where you go spot to spot?
Being on public roads, is this legal?

| do I have to have a specialized license to enter? Do I have to be an SCCA member? I appologize, I have only observed Solo events. I have been interested in group racing since I saw "I was 7th" on youtube about 3 years ago.

No, it's not a race at all. Cars start one per minute, and all drive the same course, ideally. The drive is on public roads at legal speeds. There are various ways to make it into a contest. You might have to be exactly on time at a "checkpoint" at a location unknown until you get there. You might have to follow a set of rules to get to the end, but if you don't follow them exactly, you might go by the wrong route, and get a penalty. You might ba asked to find certain signs along the route (it can be harder than it sounds). Sometimes there are puzzles to solve. Sometimes a map to read to figure out your route. Sometimes just a tour of fun roads and pretty scenery, with trivia questions to build a score. Some are at night. Most run rain or shine. Up north they have winter rallies on ice and snow. 4WD clubs do off-road rallies. The rallymaster can use his imagination to create a few hours of fun for a few drivers. Lots of people really enjoy the sport.
You don't have to be a member, although non-members usually pay a little more. You don't need a special license. You don't need a particular kind of car. GPS and maps are often no help at all. You do need two people. There are often other requirements, so read the event flyer or the website to find out. _________________ Administrator
